lyrics
I found myself the lord of a valley where a host of shadows gathered
Their masks delight, with laugh and loving embrace
But desire never once danced on their faces
Mere mirrors that echoed my aspirations
I knew at once I had fallen from grace,
and all the warmth in the valley drew away from this place
The faces once gay, filled with anguish and distorted
Vacuous vessels to fill with ambition
But emptiness was all I knew
So when the shadows collapsed I was hardly surprised
With naught of my soul left inside, what was there to divide?
I waited and watched as the illusion shattered, hopeless and haunted as the days turned to hours, my resentment grew deeper with the unrelenting silence and the passing of time, filled with rage I screamed my hatred at the sky.
And my Father said,
"Son, are you so blind you cannot see beyond the thorns in the crown I have bestowed unto thee?"
Spare me your spite and indignity, I didn't ask for this, I didn't ask to be a King
A sinster wind howled and chilled my skin, beckoning horrible silence again. My pride is shattered, my will is now weak, naught but a vessel, a chalice, a symbol, a beast.
"My perfidious child, no matter what you believe, your heart and your soul now belong to me.
For every moment in sin, for every vice and deceit.
You will bend beneath my will.
You will dance on my string.
You are naught but a Devil's plaything."
